France Vs Ireland
The kick off of the return match France Vs Ireland was at 8pm on 18 November 2009 in Stade De France in Paris. The first match was played in Dublin where Ireland lost by 0-1. This time the Irish didnt want to go down and starting pushing the french from the first minute. I can honeslty saw that it was a great match to look at. Lots of techniques, control and teamwork. It is know that the French Soccer team is good, very good even as they have won several World Cup in the Past, but the team was not like they were 4 years ago. Key players as Zidane and their favourite goal keeper Bartez were not in play. As i am living in Ireland but the partner is French it is hard to Start cheering for Ireland and be expected to be beaten up by my better half!
In the 34 min of the first half, Ireland have themself their best and scored the first goal. Excellent teamplay which resulted in an excellent goal. Well deserved as the ball position was in favour of the Irish. Once the goal was made the Irish regrouped their defense but still with the idea to have an attacking approach.
Second half started and the French started to play a bit more agressive as they could feel the pressure. The need to win this one otherweis no planeticket to go to South Africa for the Cup starting in 2010. In the middle of the second half France scored as well. The Score was 1-1. As the French won the previous match with 0-1 and this is
a rematch, the points are being add up. So Ireland was losing with 2-1, in need of two more points to win.
The Goal of the French was more of a cheating play. I do understand that the referee wasnt able to see as it all went so fast but in the slow motion reply we can clearly see that Thierry Henry did handball in order to keep the ball in play and well possitioned in order to drop it to his co player and make the goal. After all the efforts of Ireland ( which was the leading team on the field yesterday, in teamplay and possession) France got in front with one point due this 'Cheating' goal. As a professional and honored player you should think that he would admit what he did, but he didnt.
This morning on the radio, i heard that the Irish were not happy and alot of cursing at the television set happened. It was a bad decision for the goal to count, but what is done is done and cannot be altered.
It was even said that Fifa rigged the game and that they already said that France would go through and not Ireland. As these are just rumours and i dont have hard fact i will not discuss this any further.
To summarise this. 2-1 for france, France is through to the next round.
The Irish team can definately expect loads of fans and support at Dublin Airport today as their return home.
Well done boys. You have all of your hearts. Best Gameplay ever!
