Nowadays, more and more people are getting into the idea of staying fit and healthy. One effective way to do this is participating in a triathlon. And a lot of people are indeed getting into the event as well! This is because joining one is very rewarding and fun at the same time.
But if you are beginner at the event, there should be a number of things to consider and remember first. You see, participating in a triathlon is not that difficult. If you would look at the sport itself, you would definitely say that it is not rocket science or brain surgery at all. Still, just like any new endeavor, there are a number of things to keep in mind.
For starters, beginners should not aim for the big ol’ heave-ho for their first triathlon. In fact, if you are just starting out at the event, it would be so much better to limit yourself to a shorter distance race. A sprint triathlon is the recommended event here. Now, if you are too shy to admit that you are still a beginner and start looking for sprint triathlons, well, do not be. There are so many beginners out there that you would not find it in you to feel out of place! It would even be easy to find a triathlon for beginners in your area! Just look for advertisements posted on newspapers and other possible areas, such as your local gyms or parks. When you do chance upon one, though, it would be best for you to sign up for the event fast. You see, these races fill up rather quickly because there are a lot of people who want to join them! Thus, it would be better for you to pick a particular race to join and then register right away!
The next thing to do here is to have a triathlon training plan. You can employ the services of a professional trainer here, to ensure an intensive training plan for yourself. However, if you would rather do this yourself, then you can check the web for training plans. There are hundreds upon hundreds of websites that can assist you here. Just make sure to use a plan that you know you can handle. It is very important to be realistic here. Do not go for an intensive plan that you feel a bit hesitant about.
One of the events in a triathlon is swimming, and this is something beginners should concentrate on. You should then find a pool to train in. If you have a pool of your own, well and good. But if you don’t, then you can go to your local pool. You can also ask if there is an available swimming program that you can join there. This way, certified swim coaches would train you as well.
Do not ever forget that you are a beginner. You have to be reasonable here. There will come a time when you would be tempted to train way over the limit. This is especially true if you are already an athlete in your own right. But you should not give in to this craving because this would only hamper your progress in triathlon. Thus, be reasonable and stick to the program that has been prescribed.
As a beginner at triathlon, you will inevitably have weak points. You should determine which of these are and concentrate your efforts on this event. Once you have gained significant improvement in that event, you can then move on to the other areas of the event.
Lastly, you should enjoy your first triathlon. Do not give in to the pressure! This is your first time, so you should just chill and go with the flow. Things will turn out more smoothly if you have a laidback attitude towards the whole event.
